Mostra degli Asparagi

The Fossalon asparagus is a highly prized ingredient of certain traditional specialties specific of the local cuisine of Grado. Graisana Open Race

Graisana Open Race is, by far, the most important sailing event in Grado. Several types of competitions are organized according to the types of vessels which participate to the race. Performers from the entire national sailing scene come to Grado in order to take part to this event which slowly but certainly turns into a tradition, given its first edition was held in the late 1980s and that the event experiences an increasing popularity.

Grado Festival

Grado Festival Ospiti d’Autore is, as compared with other traditions on the island, an event which has entered the scene of the local agenda rather recently. Its first edition was held in 2009, but the festival sees an increasing popularity.

Basically, this is a music event meant to bring the public face to face with national and international artists which cultivate a large range of music genres. The event is, more precisely, held on the so-called Diga Nazario Sauro in Grado, and it was conceived, at least in part, to tourist purposes. It does not have a fixed date, but, as a rule, it begins in late June or early July, and performances are given until early August.

Perdon de Barbana

Perdon de Barbana is the oldest traditional event in Grado. It dates back to 1237, and it consists of votive boat processions from the island of Grado to the small island of Barbana where a Marian sanctuary is located. It is held on the first Sunday of July. This is the most spectacular religious manifestation, and it originates in a centuries-old belief that the Virgin saved the city from the plague when Grado was menaced by this danger.

This popular event musters up a large mass of people, both locals and people from the surroundings coming to Grado precisely to attend to this traditional pilgrimage.

Books and Authors under the Sunshade is one of the most important of the few literary events held in Grado. It is usually held in mid July.

Laguna Movies and Laguna Cartoons

As the name suggests, Laguna Movies and Laguna Cartoons is an event focusing on the display of cinematographic achievements. What is special about this film event is it takes into account a large range of film genres, realized both for the big and for the small screen. Each year, organizers focus on particular themes, such as the art of soundtracks or the art of subtitling and dubbing films.

On top of that, the event stands out by its open-air projections in the magical set yielded by the Grado Lagoon and by the historical center of the island. Thus, a new light is cast on Grado, highlighting, by contrast to the contemporary art of film making, the traditional and centuries-old patrimony of Grado: the casoni and the landmarks on the historical center. As a rule, it is held in the first half of August.

Grado Air Show

Held in the second half of August, Grado Air Show is one of the most spectacular events hosted by the Sunny Island. This event is not held in Grado exclusively each ear, but Grado has become one of the favorite spots for the performances. The respective performances are given by the so-called Frecce Tricolori, the Tricolor Arrows, who are the aerobatic demonstration team of the Italian Air Force.

Puppet Festival
